50 Cent may be from Queens, NY, but these days the “Get Rich or Die Tryin'” hitmaker is a Houstonian. 50 has a growing relationship with the city of Houston that includes this weekend’s Tycoon event hosted by the Power producer. While the multi-day event was memorable for its many performers, guests, and functions, most fans that were in attendance can only talk about a run-in between Joseph “Tommy” Sikora and Gary Owens that almost ended up a huge brawl.
50 Cent announced his move to Texas in 2021 with a Tweet ranting about the rising taxes in the north and how the city was more favorable for his pockets. However, it was not just in the tax benefits awaiting him in H-Town. 50 Cent scored a massive deal with the Houston Rockets and the Toyota Center through his premium wine and spirits company Sire Spirits, LLC. Through this partnership, they plan to “highlight Jackson’s award-winning Branson Cognac and Le Chemin du Roi Champagne brands to Houston Rockets games and Toyota Center events with multiple themed bars, a branded luxury suite, and a courtside loge box.”
While there, he has also brought his G-Unity Foundation to the city, which specializes in uplifting the youth and developing young entrepreneurs and programs to educate children in underserved communities. In a way to celebrate his foundation and bring more awareness to his work, 50 Cent threw a Tycoon Houston Weekend around the city featuring various performers, guest speakers, and events. It kicked off with a comedy and music festival at Toyota Center. That lineup includes B-Simone, Bill Bellamy, and Lil Duval. Musical performers include Fetty Wap, Flo Rida, Jacquees, and Jeremih. Boxer Floyd Mayweather has also been confirmed to make an appearance over the weekend.
Gary Owens was part of the comedy lineup and delivered a pretty hilarious set where he pointed out how his striking resemblance to Power star Joseph “Tommy” Sikora has not resulted in any major roles or opportunities. He joked that 50 Cent had promised him some roles but instead only booked him for the Tycoon Weekend. In the middle of his set, Sikora runs up on stage and calls him out for all his slick talk. The two shove each other back and forth before security comes and breaks them up. The crowd erupted into applause, and of course, someone was right there to record the action.
50 reshared a clip of the two almost coming to blows on Twitter. “**it got a little crazy last night, but everybody enjoyed themselves. LOL TYCOON
@JosephSikora4 @garyowencomedy” Fans on Twitter were amused by the fight with many realizing for the first time that Gary and Joseph are indeed not the same guy. “I guess Gary Owen and Joseph Sikora, aka Tommy are not the same person,” tweeted one fan. Another said, “Gary Owen wishes he looked like Joseph Sikora. Gtfoh.”
While neither man has released a statement about the fight, Joseph did respond to a comment under 50 Cent’s post from a fan marveling at the thunderous applause Sikora received when he emerged on stage. “Listen to that crowd. Man, that has to feel great to get that kind of ovation,” the fan stated. Joseph replied, “You know what, it does feel good. But what feels even better is knowing that I represent not just myself but all the people that it takes to make a hit TV show.”
What do you make of their fight?
