Comedian Sommore Doesn’t Consider Nia Long Her Sister Despite Sharing Same Father

Nia Long and Sommore have both had successes in Hollywood. Long is a massive film star who just recently got back on the market after almost a decade engaged. Meanwhile, Sommore took the comedic route and became a respected voice in that world. The women are related by their father, poet Doughtry “Doc” Long. However, Sommore says that they are not super close.

Doughtry “Doc” Long was an accomplished author, teacher, writer, and celebrated poet originally born in Atlanta, GA. He would eventually settle in Trenton, NJ. He has three daughters, Nia Long, Sommore (real name Lori Ann Rambough), and Djamila. It’s unclear if the girls were raised together, but they all came together in his finals days and to pay their respects to him when he passed away in 2020.

My sisters Lori [aka comedienne Sommore] and Djamila and I will miss him dearly and are so grateful to have been by his side as he transitioned into eternal peace,” Long told a local Trenton paper when he passed. “I love you, Daddy…forever.”Nia’s parents split when she was only two years old, and she would venture off to the West Coast with her mother, who eventually settled in Los Angeles.

The actress began acting and eventually scored roles in projects like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Boyz N Da Hood, and Friday. From here, she became a solidified star and has been gracing our screens ever since. Last year she concluded The Best Man franchise with a television series and is currently on the promotional Trail for You People and Missing.

Sommore was raised in Trenton, NJ, before moving to Atlanta for college. After graduating, she started to pursue comedy and scored coveted spots on Comic View, Showtime At The Apollo, Def Comedy Jam, and more. Eventually, she landed some film roles like Soul Plane, Friday After Next, and Something New. She also did The Queens of Comedy tour with Mo’Nique, Adele Givens, and Laura Hayes. She currently resides in Miami, FL, and credits her father for her love of writing and comedy.

Despite sharing a dad and both having careers in Hollywood, Sommore and Nia kept their relationship private for a long time. Sommore says that she did this on purpose because she never wanted to get work due to her famous sibling. It was only in recent years that she even discussed it. “A lot of people don’t know that we are sisters. That’s something that I never talked about in the beginning because I didn’t want it to be a crutch.”

Sommore goes on to add that they are actually not super close, either. She says that even though they share a dad, Sommore would never babysit Nia’s kids and does not really consider her a sister. Despite this, Long has shared images of her over the years. She even posted a side-by-side of them once, calling Sommore “the funny one in the family.”

She would go on to delete it a few hours later, even though Sommore liked it.
