The Cartel are taking full responsibility for the incident involving four Americans that resulted in two of them losing their lives. While Mexican and American authorities continue to put together what exactly happened over the weekend, the organization released a statement condemning those who acted on their own accord and made a huge mistake.

Over the weekend, four North Carolina residents were taken after crossing the border from Texas into the Mexican city of Matamoros. When they were found, two had already lost their lives, while a third sustained an injury to the leg. Reports stated that one man was already in custody in connection to the incident, but not too much other information came out. Today the Cartel released a letter to the public letting everyone know that they did not condone the actions of the five members involved. “We have decided to turn over those who were directly involved and responsible in the events, who at all times acted under their own decision-making and lack of discipline,” read a statement from The Gulf Cartel.
The Associated Press received the document and said it was delivered with a picture of five men lying face down on the floor and tied up. In the letter, they acknowledged the passing of a local woman in Matamoros who also lost her life during the incident. The statement makes sure to drive home the fact that the men all acted on their own and with no direction from the organization. The five men responsible were later found tied up in a vehicle that the police had been looking for.
The incident was said to be a case of mistaken identity, but it is unclear who the five men were initially looking for. The four Americans; LaTavia McGee, Shaeed Woodard, Eric Williams, and Zindell Brown; are still being investigated by the internal government. According to Fox News, “The document includes details of the Americans, including drug-related convictions against two of the members, which the Mexican government allegedly argued makes it possible the Americans ‘could be directly linked to operations.'”
