It’s been a rough 24 hours for R&B singer Sammie. The singer had been on the road making club appearances when the news surfaced of his mother taking the life of a 27-year-old woman. The senseless incident has left two young kids motherless and a mother and husband seeking answers.
Sammie took to Instagram to send his condolences to the family of Nekaybaw Collier. “In consideration of the recent news, I would like to express my most sincere condolences to the family of Mrs. Collier. I understand the severity of the allegations, but I do not have any additional information,” the singer wrote. In close, Sammie ask for privacy for both his family and the family of Mrs. Collier.
As reported, Nekaybaw Collier was driving home from the grocery store when Sammie’s mother, Angila Baxter, assumed she was being followed and began firing at the vehicle. Collier was later found unresponsive in her car. The same day other witnesses reported seeing the exact vehicle firing off at other cars, which was later traced back to Angila Baxter.
Nekaybaw Collier’s life was taken on January 12th. After discovering her body, a $5,000 reward was offered for information about the incident. Sammie’s mother was finally taken into custody on January 20th. Earlier today, Angila Baxter’s bond was denied by the judge.
Nekaybaw Collier leaves behind two children, a husband, and a mother. A GoFundMe campaign has been created to help the family raise money for funeral arrangements and seek mental health services for her children. At this time, nearly $10,000 has been raised. The campaign goal is $50,000. Her family describes Collier as “kind, caring, smart, talented, and beautiful.” Both her mother and husband referred to her as their best friend.
No word on funeral arrangements for Nekaybaw Collier at the moment. Her family recently gathered together with relatives and close friends at Downey Park in Orlando, FL.
