Tyler James Williams took home his first Golden Globe this evening for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical-Comedy or Drama Television Series’ for ‘Abbott Elementary.” This is a big deal for Tyler James Williams, who began his career as a child star appearing in shows such as Little Bill and Sesame Street.

Following those minor roles, Tyler James Williams secured his breakthrough role as Chris Rock on “Everybody Hates Chris.” Just recently, Williams was featured in Men’s Health magazine, discussing his previous health complications and being diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at 19. The Abbott Elementary actor revealed he nearly lost his life after having approximately six inches of his small intestine removed due to extensive scarring. In addition to his first Golden Globes win this evening, a few months ago, Williams scored his very first Primetime Emmy nomination.
Abbott Elementary led the 2023 Golden Globe nominations this year with five nominations, including Actress in a Musical or Comedy TV Series, Musical or Comedy TV Series; Supporting Actress in a TV Series/ Musical-Comedy or Drama; Supporting Actress in a TV Series/ Musical-Comedy or Drama; and Supporting Actor in a TV Series/Musical-Comedy or Drama which Tyler James Williams won.
Following Tyler James Williams’ win, Quinta Bronson won the award for Best Actress in a music or comedy TV series. “I have to say thank you to Justin Halpern, and Patrick Schumacher, my co-producers, who are just incredible and support my vision, the Abbott Elementary creator stated during her speech. This was Quinta Bronson’s first Golden Globe nomination and win.

Last year Abbott Elementary became the first ABC comedy premiere to quadruple ratings after debuting in December 2021. According to Deadline, after 35 days of viewing across ABC’s linear and digital platforms, the series premiere shot up 300% in the demo for a 2.4 rating and 7.1 million total viewers.
Following the success of season one, Abbott Elementary returned in November and broke another record with 10.4 million viewers across linear and digital platforms. The 10.4 million viewers was also 40% higher than the series initial premiere.
